Bluewater Gallery features WAWART Debut Exhibit

The fledgeling art group aims to restore native predilection for wit and irony in local contemporary art practice.

CEBU, Philippines - December 2, 2012 - The contemporary art group WAWART will hold its first exhibit on December 3, 2001 to January 9, 2012 at the Bluewater Gallery (Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort).

Entitled "Sawum" ("dive" in Cebuano), the art exhibit takes inspiration from the gallery's pristine beach setting and thus attempts to reflect the "question of the elemental".

The curated show features video art, sculptures, indoor and outdoor installations along with wall-bound works.

A live art performance highlights the opening program which will be attended by 2011 Miss Universe Finalist, Shamcey Supsup, as one of the guests of honor.

PILIPINAS SHELL PARTICIPANTS WITH BLUEWATER MARIBAGO'S BANQUET SALES TEAM

Bluewater Maribago’s Banquet Sales and Marketing Team put together another successful Amazing Race teambuilding activity for the Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation last July 14, 2011. The group was divided into three different teams, according to the colors of their Havaianas slippers.

Empowering Lives in Rural Communites: The Success Story of Da Vinci Massage Therapist Center.

Turismo Rural Foundation (TRF) is a non-profit organization that helps develop sustainable community-based tourism and livelihood programs in rural towns. Last February, 2010, it sponsored skills training to the residents of Oslob and Santander in southern Cebu. The participants were educated on massage and haircut techniques, including basic knowledge on starting a business with their newly acquired capabilities. The training produced 13 graduates.


Inspired by the Foundation’s lecturer and with a desire to succeed, five women graduates together formed a massage service enterprise. With an initial capital of P2,000 each, Da Vinci Massage Therapist Center was established at Lower Lilo-an, Santander, Cebu. “Equipped with our knowledge in training and our new found friendship, we decided to put up our own business,” shared Orlene Lou Bureros-Castigador, one of the founding women. “When turning a passion into a business, one must believe in their product or service,” she added.

POWER OF FIVE. The five dynamic ladies behind the successful Da Vinci Massage Therapist Center.

Business was initially brisk from regular walk-in clients. Soon, they widened their market by tapping partnerships with nearby resorts and offering therapeutic home services. To augment the increased demand for their services, they added two new members. 


Their hard work and determination produced a positive outcome in such a short period. In spite of their success, the partners opt to stay grounded. They make it a point to provide 10% of their income for church donations. It is their way of showing appreciation for the blessings received and give back to their local community.


The women behind Da Vinci are a living proof that TRF’s initiatives can make a difference in uplifting lives and help in the economic development of rural Cebu.


This year, Turismo Rural Foundation, in continuing partnership with PUM Netherlands Senior Experts and Bluewater Resorts, will again conduct free skills training on cosmetology, particularly manicure, pedicure and hair cutting. Everyone with the passion to learn is welcome to join the sessions. Training will be held in parts of Cebu and Bohol for the entire month of June: Municipal Covered Court in Poblacion, Oslob (June 4-8); Summit Design Furniture Manufacturing Inc. in Mactan (June 10-14); Municipal Hall of Sogod (June 16-20) and Panglao, Bohol (June 22-26). BenCab’s Life Drawings Open at the Bluewater Gallery

Last May 15, 2011, Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort and Bluewater Gallery premiered the exhibit -BenCab: Life Drawings Exhibit.  Ben Cabrera, also known as BenCab, was on hand for his first solo exhibit in Cebu after being declared a National Artist. 


Together with BenCab, the exhibit was formally opened with guests of honor Rafaelita Pelaez and Raul Arambulo. They were assisted by Bluewater Resort’s Julie Alegrado-Vergara and Consul Arcadio Alegrado.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by cocktails at Molto Italiano. The reception was well attended by honorable members of the Consular Corps of Cebu, local artists, art collectors and enthusiasts.

“Bluewater provides a venue for local artists to showcase their works to both local and international audiences,” shares Bluewater Gallery Director Vic Vergara. Cebu gets to share in seeing BenCab's work up close and meet the National Artist personally. The event was hosted by art aficionado Jude Bacalso.

The exhibit showcases BenCab’s personal collection of drawings from 2009 to present. These artworks were kept in his Baguio studio featuring a collection of 20 portraits and nude figure drawings on paper, mostly done with charcoal and pastel with daubs of color. His works have always dealt with grace of the human form and its nuances. However, this collection is set in a more casual and domesticated character.  They are a result of the artist’s observation and interaction of the human form – from local folk and farmhands that work daily in the farm and garden at the BenCab Museum to visiting models seizing a rare opportunity to pose nude for the master.

Glamping Premieres at Bluewater Resorts

Last April 14, 2011, Bluewater Resorts introduced its latest product called “Glamping”.  A media event was held at the Bluewater Maribago to showcase the unique camping experience.

Maribago Bluewater’s Easter Sunday Celebration

Last April 24, 2011, Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort celebrated Easter with a fun-filled outing for kids that culminated with the Great Bluewater Easter Egg Hunt. Under the canopy of tall banyan trees, the picnic grove was transformed into a magical forest draped in pastel colors. The grounds were packed with activity pods that included art coloring, egg-painting, cupcake decorating, games and dance with Bluewater’s mascot, Dolpo, the dolphin. The resort’s Easter Buddies helped kids to ‘hop’ from one fun pursuit to the next.

 COLOR ME FUN. Kids enjoyed the coloring activity with the blue-themed Luau set-up.

After the frenzy, the children settled down to rest with a specially prepared meal. The respite led to a captivating story tale journey by Grace Ferreros, a respected storyteller and a Waldorf Education Trainer.  She enthralled the audience with a story of why Easter is intertwined with Easter bunnies and eggs. With the use of music, candles and other props, the story of the Easter Hare was a rare and memorable treat for the young audience. Then it was on to the much awaited Great Bluewater Easter Egg Hunt. The adventure tots eagerly combed the covered gardens of the magical forest and sands of the beach cove. The wily twists and turns heightened the determination to look for eggs that offer prizes and surprises. A highlight of this activity is that each participant was given “Eco-Friendly” baskets to haul their finds. Crafted by the resort staff, these baskets were made of old newspapers, thus giving out the message to help mother earth and create awareness on the art of recycling. They were decked with blue bunnies for the boys and colorful paper Easter lilies for the girls.

Each year, Maribago Bluewater and its Dolpo Kids Club find creative ways to celebrate Easter. Its annual Great Bluewater Easter Egg Hunt is one way to bring excitement to our junior guests. It is also a medium for family bonding and education. The ultimate goal is to lead one to find joy, great joy.  So, get ready for next year’s great adventure.
